An audio-visual re-interpretation of the song, Dirty Old Town

The video shows the original lyrics of the song 'Dirty Old Town'. It was written by hole punching the words of the song into the strip. Visually, the strip is a panoramic photograph of the Bridgewater Canal in Salford, which once placed through the 20 note mechanical music box, causes the music box to produce a unique re-interpretation of the song which supports my MA project.

Final touches to MA Show, wed 09.01.13

Canal panorama mounted between perspex boards and fixed to walls.

Sketch books, picture frame and other supplies.

Push-button music box (containing audio of canal panoramas being played through mechanical music box) and Dirty Old Town sheet music.

Preparing Sound Installation, Tuesday 08.01.13

Creation of tickets; based on the tickets issued to the public for the Queen's visit to the canal, each ticket folds out to show a map of the route the Queen took. In addition the tickets are hole-punched so that when fed through the music box they play God Save The Queen. Each ticket is numbered individually.

Aligning canal panoramas to ensure they are centered properly and fixing them between the perspex boards. The protective covering was left on the outer surfaces of the board until they were mounted to prevent damage or wear.

Proof-of-concept prototype of the canal panoramas; fixed between two pieces of perspex and attached to a wooden board using the same type of screw / bolt to demonstrate concept.

Push button music box. Prior to mounting them on the wall, I fed the panoramas with Dirty Old Town lyrics cut into them through my music box and recorded the results, which were loaded onto the above device.
